“After many years of wandering in the spiritual deserts of the Bronx and New Jersey, I am now beginning to make a home for myself in a sometimes conscious relationship with the Absolute. As a result of my work in ASOS: I laugh more and I cry more; I am more silent...

Brenda’s spiritual philosophy:
We are here to have a change of heart. Human beings are dynamic processes of unfolding Beauty. It is our destiny to awaken and be in intimate relationship with all of life, including its imperfections and suffering. As we heal, we learn to be open hearted, even to the places where we are closed and to be a true human being -- wise and foolish, living a human life in this place of ever-present wholeness.

Jan’s Spiritual Philosophy:
Embarking on a spiritual path of healing was an adventure and a risk for me, since I grew up in a secular home. I explored a number of spiritual paths before feeling at home with this one. This was the first and only path I’ve encountered that has led me to a clear understanding of what it means to heal. What I offer as a teacher and healer is companionship and guidance in the search for that sense of homecoming. Home is a place of compassionate curiosity about the truth of who we are; a safe place to explore our gifts and our shortcomings in our relationship to others, ourselves, and the cosmos. What I value most about this path is the cultivation of willingness to challenge conscious and unconscious misconceptions in an open-hearted way; to discover what is true and real; and to find illumination in our darkest moments, and in so doing, to see the sacred shine through the mundane.
Gary DePice is a teacher and supervisor with A Society of Souls. He began his studies with ASOS in 1997and has been on the teaching staff since 2003. He is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey and New York with an office in Hoboken, NJ. He is currently teaching with ASOS in New Jersey.
Gary’s Spiritual Philosophy:
We have an inner calling that seeks to understand and embrace our longing to be compassionate beings in the world. We long to be in an intimate relationship with all of life and we invite and welcome the company of others to help us on this journey of awakening to our true self. And on this journey we wrestle with the forces we meet both on the inside and outside of our life.
Jeff Ellias-Frankel, PhD, is a teacher and supervisor with a Society of Souls. He began his studies with ASOS in 1999 and began teaching in 2004. He is particularly interested in the integration of the psychological and spiritual perspectives. He has designed and led a variety of workshops and retreats both nationally and internationally. He is currently teaching with ASOS in New Jersey.
Jeff’s Spiritual Philosophy:
'To be blessed' is to be reminded of the unbreakable connection to one’s Source. I have been blessed by family, friends, teachers and students. The well of gratitude which such blessings bring is the place from which I teach. The often difficult journey of being human is enriched beyond words by our deep and wide understanding of who we are. The instrument of this understanding is the heart-mind. When this opens our view broadens so that nothing changes and nothing is the same.

Eileen's Spiritual Philosophy:
There is a place deep inside of us that yearns to heal and to be whole, to wake up to reality and to know the truth. Through relationship with others on a healing path, we touch this territory, allowing our truest nature to unfold, which includes our difficulties and awakens us to the preciousness of ordinary life. This process is sacred, creating a fertile ground for the blossoming of true creativity, kindness and the ability to be with life and death as it is.
Arlene Shulman, MA, is a teacher, psychotherapist and artist who has practiced a spiritually-based approach to psychotherapy for over 35 years. In 1998 she also began concentrating on her work as an artist. Since 2001 she has had five one-woman shows of her photographs and constructions. At A Society of Souls she specializes in teaching Impersonal Movement and the advanced studies courses in spiritual awakening with Jason Shulman, with whom she has been married for over 40 years.
Arlene's Spiritual Philosophy:
While it is a true wonder to awaken to the oneness of reality, it is a still greater wonder for me that this vast, undivided oneness has manifested itself as individual identities--an infinite array of separateness and difference. For me, there is no contradiction whatsoever in accepting the perfection of ourselves as we are and simultaneously understanding the great personal effort needed to change ourselves and the world.
